It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme that is currently being hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.
And just like that, it is October. This year is just flying by. I’m still finishing up the last remnants of unpacking from my move. Yeah, I’m a procrastinator. It’s mostly just those last few things that I still need to find a home for. I love my new apartment, and slowly but surely Lottie and I are making it feel like a home.
I didn’t get a whole lot of actual reading done in September. I was unpacking and adjusting to life as a single parent, but I’m getting it all figured out now. I’ve got a bit of a routine going, and finding time to get some reading done. I lacked motivation as I got closer to the move, and it has taken some time to get it back again, but I think I’m back.
I joined several readathons this month to hopefully pull me out of the reading slump. I did join Bookoplathon in September, but I only actually managed to do two of the prompts before losing my motivation completely. Between being tired of unpacking and actually unpacking, I just didn’t get to it like I thought I would. But that’s okay.
But let’s talk books!
What I read last week:
The Woman In Cabin 10 was my first prompt for both Spoopathon and Spooktober. I only finished this yesterday, but still technically counts as last week. It was my first book by Ruth Ware, and I thought it was okay. I found it confusing in parts, and some of the plot choices were not what I wanted, but it was fine. The main character, Lo, I wasn’t a huge fan of which I don’t think helped. It started off very promising, and I quite enjoyed the end, but the portion in between I found to be chaotic and jumbled.
What I am reading now:
I started Bring Me Back yesterday and so far I am hooked. The back and forth between timelines and glimpses into the past and present stories is excellent.
Bizenghast is my first manga, and I chose it to fulfill a new genre prompt. It’s a little creepy and weird, so right up my alley.
The Mutts Autumn Diaries is a book I chose to break up the heaviness and weirdness of Bring Me Back, Bizenghast, and Woman In Cabin 10. Sometimes so much heavy at once gets a bit much and I like something lighter to brighten it all up.
What I’m reading next:
I have had The Guest List on my TBR for a while now, ever since I picked it up at a 2nd hand bookstore. I should get to it later on this week, assuming I can get my current books finished by then.
What are you reading this week? Have you read any these books?
